Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American singer-actress and former model. The most well-known of her works is the star of the 1984 Prince Purple Rain film and lead singer in the girl-group Apollonia 6 She was one of several female performers who gained of Prince's involvement during the 1980s. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career began as a model actress in the late '70s including an appearance on the television show CHiPS. In 1984, she was cast as the role of the lead female for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time he changed her name) as well as replacing Vanity as a member of the female group Vanity 6 performing with them on the screen with the title Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter was not a huge success for the trio, however, she had an even bigger effect as the duet partner of Prince in Take Me with You on the soundtrack. Kotero and Prince had a fallout regarding her career. Apollonia6 split, Kotero was not able to continue her relationship with Prince. The singer then appeared in few minor films in the late 1980s (reportedly refusing an offer to star in the sequel to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon) and then settled on a night-time role in the film Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia finally released her debut in 1988 but the fairly pedestrian set of songs that incorporated dance/R&B did not be a hit with those who bought music, and soon the album vanished off the shelves. The singer was still active, though she wasn't in the spotlight as an actress during the decade, albeit with minor film and television roles. An exercise DVD was released.
